The Elmina boutique hotel offers its guests a unique passage into a bygone era of service, experience and luxury. The name, which I devised, means port in Arabic, inspired by the adjacent Jaffa port. This was the starting point for the visual identity of what would become a local landmark.
Complimenting Michael Azoulay’s Art Deco interiors and renowned architect Ron Arad’s architecture, the design process was largely inspired by the magical orange and blue hues of the mediterranean sea and sunset, as well as the Ottoman era arches of the stone exteriors that manifest through the usage of curving shapes.
For the project we developed a custom logotype and room numbering system that strikes the right chord between modern, magical and nostalgic.
